Tax and Tariff

Tax and tariff.

Tax, George Washington called it “a burden on the common folk” if excessively applied”.

Tariff, one might think it is the manufacturer of goods that is being targeted with a specific duty levied against a particular product.  But if we look at the cost of Americas first beer, say,  Schaffers that costs a mere 99c before the pandemic, now going for $3.50, then, George Washington – immediately after his inauguration at St. Paul’s chapel in 1789, was right to point out that, “tax or tariff, no one feels it more than the ordinary folk who labors day and night”.

George Washington is long and gone, but what he said on that late April day of 1789 is true of the state of every working American today.

And if “every single American has a baggage they carry around with them” as Mitt Romney said in one of his video clips, then, I Abbey Laurel-Smith, a Know-Nothing Republican candidate for President, USA 2024, therefore see it as a duty to help relieve all Americans of the burden placed on their shoulders as well as on their entire household.

I believe no country has ever prospered by taxing its citizens to hell. And no economy has ever been revived or energized by taxing main economic drivers to a point where they have nothing more to give.  We as a nation can therefore not tax our way to prosperity.

We can however do what was done after the American civil war till 1941 – when everything changed because of America’s entrance into WWII and because of fashionable interests, and go back to:

  • Developing our economy the American way by reducing our dependency on landlords or those holders of properties that are actually not extracting anything from the land, in favor of farmers and extractors of mineral resources.
  • Shift to a physiocratic economy system as a way for opening up supply lines as well as boosting innovation and small businesses at all levels.

I will even go further by proposing we go back to our protestant roots as a nation. Do what Edward I, King of England did when his Kingdom was in this same situation 900 years ago. Like the King, I will jumpstart the economy nationwide, by making it sustainable, secure, safe and affordable for all by:

  • nullifying inflated rates nationwide, cancelling out all speculated rates nationwide, then enact a return to value rate.
