Concerned about the way in which the United States Department of War – as set up in 1789 was going, Henry Clay, then a Kentucky state Rep., warned anyone listening about, “feeding and enabling a system that will suck out the best out of this land and turn Americans into wildings in every corner of their own homes”.
To Senator Calhoun, he asked, “what becomes of the American if a home is no longer a safe haven?”. A question to which he got no reply from the South Carolina Senator.
Undeterred by the lack of acknowledgement from the Senator, he then commented, “Ah! I see, we are setting up the turtle on a tree, when in actual fact, turtles aren’t naturally known to climb trees. I fear for what is to become of all Americans”.
To any Irish farmer in the western frontier in the late 1700’s or to those black orchard farmers north of Bowery street in New York, the term “Turtle on a tree” or a sudden shout out of “Turtle, Turtle, Turtle” is an alert and a warning call to go grab your arms and be ready to fence off an attack by Native Indians.
Today, this department headed by the Secretary of State and the SecDef I see as not just a turtle sitting on a tree, but a turtle sitting on a fence and looking in to our homes.
It is the only department that has always dissuade our elected officials from pursuing domestic American policies. It is the only department that has always moved our elected officials from doing things that will benefit Americans.
If elected President 2024, I would do three things:
- tame this “turtle on a tree” to see what is wrong with America and what needs to be fixed at home by redirecting it’s gaze, and point off interest.
- reduce it’s power and influence through an admin tool
- return to the care of Methodists and Baptists church ministers. They were not Popes nor anointed Cardinals of the Church of England, yet they helped set up and establish Liberia in 1822.
Getting rid of the foreign arm of this department and returning our military to the days of when it was called “The Army of the United States” is the only guaranteed way to start a long process of re-building America Today.
